Who this notice is for
This notice covers the Facebook pages (and connected Instagram accounts) of independent newsagents that are members of the Newspower group, along with the advertising we run for them. Each store is its own local business. Newspower Australia Pty Ltd ("Newspower") helps manage these pages and runs advertising for them.
In this notice, "we" means the store whose page you're interacting with, along with Newspower, which acts on the store's behalf.
What information we collect
When you interact with a store's page or our ads, we may collect:
- your name and public profile details, as provided by Facebook or Instagram
- messages you send us through Messenger or Instagram Direct
- details you give us in a conversation, like an order, a product enquiry, or your phone number or email
- information you submit through a Facebook lead form
- how you interact with our page, posts and ads, such as likes, comments, follows and ad clicks
- information about your visits to our websites, collected by the Meta Pixel (explained below)
How we use it
We use this information to:
- reply to your messages and help with enquiries and orders
- keep track of where a conversation is at, for example by marking it as a new enquiry, an order, or complete
- work out which of our ads and posts are useful to people
- show relevant ads to people who might be interested in what the store offers
Where we keep it
Your information is held in our page inbox in Meta Business Suite, in the social media management tools we use to run our pages, and in any records the store keeps to look after your enquiry or order.
Sharing information with Meta
Our pages have Meta's business data sharing turned on. This means activity from your conversations with us, like orders, the labels we apply, and where an enquiry is at, is shared with Meta Platforms (the company behind Facebook and Instagram).
Meta may use this information to personalise and improve ads, including showing our ads to people with similar interests. For example, if someone buys something after seeing one of our ads, Meta may keep showing that ad to similar customers.
Meta handles this information under its own terms and privacy policy, which you can read at facebook.com/privacy/policy. We don't sell your personal information.
Meta Pixel and cookies
From time to time, we use the Meta Pixel and similar tools on our websites. The Meta Pixel is a small piece of code that lets us and Meta see actions people take on our websites after seeing or clicking one of our ads, such as viewing a page, adding a product to their cart, or making a purchase.
This means third parties, including Meta, may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to collect or receive information from our websites and elsewhere on the internet. They use that information to measure how our ads are performing and to show ads to people who are likely to be interested, including people who have visited our websites before.
Pixel data is collected and held by Meta. We only see it as combined reports, not as information about individual people, so we can't access or delete it for you. You can control it by:
- changing your ad settings at facebook.com/adpreferences
- blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings
- opting out of interest-based ads from participating companies at youronlinechoices.com.au
Information stored overseas
Meta stores and processes data outside Australia, including in the United States. By using our Facebook or Instagram pages, or visiting websites that use the Meta Pixel, your information may be sent to and stored in those countries.
Your choices
- If you'd rather we didn't keep details from your conversations, tell us in the chat or contact us using the details below, and we'll remove what we hold in our page inbox and records.
- Information that has already been shared with Meta is handled by Meta. You can manage it through your Facebook or Instagram settings, or at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
- On any ad, tap the three dots and choose "Why am I seeing this ad?" to see or change why it's showing.
- You can stop following our page at any time.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or remove it. We can only access and remove information held in our page inbox and our own records. Contact us using the details below and we'll respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days.
